Where large loads exist such as rectifiers, welders, induction furnaces, rolling mills etc., the nature of duly cycle is such that normal duty capacitors are not adequate for compensation circuits.

Demands of heavy duty industrial loads need special duty rating of capacitors. Arduous nature of load gives rise to high level of over currents and even higher over voltages in irregular manner.

To build up the correct degree of protection, a capacitor therefore needs to withstand higher over current and higher surge voltage. This dual consideration need to be carefully considered to evolve a more precise construction of capacitors. Heavy Duty non linear loads where power condition is not very Healthy such as voltage THD of 5% & Current THD upto 8% exists, heavy duty capacitors are essentially needed to improve the compensation.
